Dear Parent / Carer,
National Walk to School Week
Just a reminder that the week commencing Monday October 19th is ‘National Walk to School Week’. The aim of the week is to highlight that walking to school can be fun, healthy, environmentally beneficial to both children and adults and helps to reduce congestion on roads. It also helps children to learn vital road safety skills. We are hoping that, where possible, you will be able to help promote this week by encouraging your child to walk to school, even for part of the journey. Thank you for your support.
New Lunchtime menu
In response to your feedback we are pleased to announce that the new lunchtime menu will start immediately after half term. This has been attached for your information. The new menu includes soup which currently we will not be able to serve because the children eat off ‘flight’ trays. A whole baguette will be served instead. There are plans to change to using plates and bowls as soon as possible. If you would like your child to change from packed lunches to a school dinner this is not a problem but the kitchen does need one weeks notice to make sure the right amount of food is prepared. It is also possible for children to have a mixture of packed lunches and school meals providing the arrangements do not change week to week.
Jumble Sale
Thank you to everyone who donated jumble towards our jumble sale and came along to support. This was a big success and the money raised will go towards funding playground equipment. Thank you too to all the helpers who came along to sort jumble and run stalls on the day. The time you give to school is very much appreciated. The jumble that was not sold on the day will also go to a good home much of it has already been given to charities such as Oxfam. We are hoping to distribute the rest this week.
Harvest Collection
Thank you for your harvest donations. This will go to the charity ‘The Arches’ which supports homeless families or other families in need. We are still peeling money off the sheets to see how much we have collected so I am not able to tell you how much we have raised yet.
Parent Fundraisers
There are a number of parents who help support the school by raising funds through fundraising activities. The school is very appreciative of the time and commitment that they give. Every bit of help that the group receives spreads the amount of preparation that needs to be done as well as sharing ideas and making it possible to do new activities. The children in school really benefit from all the money that is raised and from the fun in taking part in activities that are run, such as the school disco’s. The group is in real need of new members to enable it to carry on being as successful as it has been as some members now have other commitments and no longer feel able to continue in the same capacity. You do not need to be able to attend every meeting or get involved in every activity but you are needed. If you can help please leave your name and contact details at the school office. Thank you.
Can I say a big thank you to Gill Smith and Donna Rees who have recently resigned from the parents fund raising group. They have given a lot of support and help for a number of years for which the school is very grateful.
Reminder
The school breaks up for half term on Friday October 23rd and reopens Monday November 2nd.
The school is closed for In-Service training on Friday November 13th.
Before & After Schools Club Survey
This survey is being conducted on behalf of the school to find out the level of interest amongst parents and is something every school is asked to do. I gather that some people have found the survey unhelpful. What we need to know is would you be interested in having this facility in school and if so when (before school, after school or holidays), times needed and how often? If you prefer not to use the survey just write down exactly what sort of requirements you are interested in. Only should there be sufficient initial interest will the school investigate whether we can meet this need as it would entail adapting existing school facilities, sourcing a reputable provider and resolving other potential difficulties.
Are you free?
The school is very keen to hear from you about your ideas about the sorts of things we could do for you to make you feel more involved or supported in school life or to make the school more welcoming. On Wednesday November 18th in the morning (from about 9 to 11am) we have arranged a ‘Learning Walk’ and discussion session to gather your ideas and feedback. This is being run by someone external to the school so that you can feel open to share your comments and I will not be present for that part. The ‘learning walk’ is a walk around school for you to evaluate the school from a parent’s perspective and to make suggestions or comments. To make the session successful we need about 10 parents in total. If you are interested please can you complete the reply slip below or speak to me personally. We’ll put on some nice refreshments!
From this session the intention is that we review the comments and suggestions you have made and put incorporate these into our school action plan. It is your chance to have a say so please come. We will confirm your attendance with you prior to the event. If you can’t make the morning but are still interested in sharing your views please let me know and we can sort another time.
Toddler Group
Finally may I lay to rest the rumour that the Toddler group which is currently run on a Thursday morning is closing. It is NOT. It is a very successful and popular group that will be running for the foreseeable future. The group is however looking for more regular support to help in its setting up and running, perhaps on a rotated basis, to enable other helpers to take up work commitments. If you can help please let the Toddler Group know. Thank you.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely,
Susan Laplanche
