BETTER WORDS

In Year One we run Better Words, which provide children with support to improve their reading skills. The program is run by Jo Hickling, with the support of Lisa one of our parents. Each child, on the program has three one to one 15 minute sessions a week, with either Jo or Lisa then they take home words and games to support what is covered in school. The program focuses on key words which the children will come across in their day to day class activities.

Working with Year 2

In Year 1 we teach through topics where we work closely with Year 2. The children are consulted about the choice of topic although the overall subject areas are covered through a two year cycle.

Autumn 2007 - Literacy - Percy the Park Keeper - Nick Butterworth.

Spring 2008 - Art - topic introduced through Katie’s Picture Show by James Mayhem- the children will use this as a starting point to explore the work of different artists through all curriculum areas.
